The Rise of Inpatient Coding: Why Global Healthcare is Shifting to AHIMA-CCS in 2026
Cigma Medical Coding Academy announces the launch of AHIMA-CCS training in Kerala, offering a higher-tier certification ...
Attention all Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) aspirants and students! If you have been studying with 2025 ICD-10 materials, there is a major update you cannot afford to miss.
The industry is moving forward. AHIMA has officially announced that starting May 1, 2026, the CCS exam will transition exclusively to the 2026 Code Sets.
What this means for you:
Testing BEFORE May 1st: You must use your current 2025 ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS books.
Testing ON or AFTER May 1st: You MUST have the 2026 Official Codebooks. Using 2025 books will result in an automatic disqualification at the test center.
It’s not just a year change on the cover. The 2026 update includes over 500 code changes, including:
New Specificity: Massive updates to Non-pressure chronic ulcers (over 100 new codes!) and Type 2 Diabetes in remission.
Guideline Revisions: Critical changes to Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and Hypertension with Heart/Kidney disease sequencing.
CCS Exam Weightage: The 2026 exam will place a higher emphasis on Inpatient (IP) coding accuracy, making the CCS the "Gold Standard" for international careers in the US and UAE.
