Medical Billing is an accounting for medical bills and medical claims submitted on behalf of a patient to insurance companies.  This field has to do with revenue accounting, and nothing to do much more with coding.  The Medical Biller handles the Revenue Cycle Management for the medical facility.

Medical Billing specialist work to verify that all the required information is present in the claim and that the medical services being billed on the insurance claim are supported by the patient's medical record so that the insurance companies are making correct payments without overpaying. In addition to ensure that the data is accurate and that the claim is adjudicated properly. Payments coming from either the patient or the insurance payor are posted to the claim by the Medical Biller. Any remaining balances are then either written off, adjusted or pursued in collections. The Medical Biller is the trained person who handles the Revenue Cycle Management for the medical facility.

Revenue Cycle Management: (RCM) is the financial process, utilizing medical billing software that healthcare facilities use to track patient care episodes from registration, claim submission, denial management, and payment posting AR follow up, charge entry and appointment scheduling to the final payment of a balance.

Program Overview.

After successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Biller (CPB) exam, which is a national exam from the AAPC designed to certify entry-level medical Billers.
